Turkey leaps forward in tug electrification

Sanmar Shipyards has begun construction on four new electric tugs for Turkey’s state-owned BOTAŞ Petroleum Pipeline Corporation, marking a milestone in the electrification of tug fleets.

A steel cutting ceremony has taken place at Sanmar’s Altinova Shipyard, launching the build of four battery-powered tugs based on the ElectRA 2500-SX design by Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd.
