​Targe expands its Sanmar-built tug fleet

The vessel, Camperdown, was built to a RAL RAstar 2900SX ASD design.

The vessel is primarily intended for demanding escort operations in exposed areas where exceptional seakeeping capabilities are crucial. 

Specifications for Camperdown include a LOA of 29.4m and a breadth of 13.3m, moulded depth 5.5m and design draught 5.75m. It has a bollard pull of 85 tonnes both ahead and astern, and its escort towing and seakeeping performance is enhanced by its “unique” sponsoned hull form. The vessel delivers a free running speed of 13kn.

It meets fifi1 notation and has a dispersant and spraying system. Various towing modes are catered for with towing winches both forward and aft. Indicating it will be more than just a shiphandling tug, it has accommodation for eight persons.

Targe’s fleet list indicates it has 10 vessels, not including Camperdown, of which seven are Sanmar vessels. The TRAktor Z2500SX Balmerino was delivered in 2023 with the line handling workboats Cormorant and Gannet delivered in 2021.

In 2021 and following a long-running close working relationship, Forth Ports Ltd and its subsidiary Forth Estuary Towage acquired the entire share capital of Targe Towing.
