‘Multratug 35’ christened in Terneuzen

It is the first of two identical vessels that were contracted in June 2023., delivery made quicker because Damen had already started building the tugs as per its standard practice of building standard vessels for stock.

Multraship HR manager Chrétienne Huisman did the honours at Terneuzen, which is Multraship’s home port.

Multratug 35 and 36 are 32m tugs with 80 tons bollard pull for deep sea and coastal towage, salvage and other operations, Multraship managing director Leender Muller said.

“Though built to Damen’s proven design, they have been substantially upgraded to Multraship’s high standards and requirements with a series of options, said Muller. “These include compliance with IMO Tier III requirements, which is achieved with the installation of Damen’s in-house developed Marine NO_X Reduction system.

“This modular, selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system reduces NO_X emissions by 80% compared with IMO Tier II requirements. Additionally, Damen has installed the tug with FiFi 1 fire-fighting systems and it has been upgraded for anchor handling and related offshore operations. Crew accommodation space has been enhanced with additional insulation and rubberised to provide greater comfort.”
