DTU Aqua unveils new polar vessel design

Over the past year, the Dansk Dana Konsortium (DDK) – a partnership between Knud E Hansen and Odense Maritime Technology – has taken an initial 68m concept and transformed it into a detailed 70m tender design.

As a result DTU Aqua has now released a public tender for the detailed design, build and delivery of the vessel, named DANA V.

DDK transformed the concept through comprehensive engineering, propeller design, model testing (ice, manoeuvring, seakeeping, cavitation, and self-propulsion tests), underwater noise analysis, and measures to minimise bubble sweep down, to culminate in what the consortium says is a ‘state-of-the-art Polar-class research vessel’.

As part of the process, workshops were run with crew members and researchers to ensure their insights were integrated into the final design.
