Slim Packings and Soft Buoys at seawork2004

Among the products to be seen on the Ocean Safety Ltd stand at seawork2004 will be two new ones, the SOLAS Slimpack Liferaft and the Horseshoe Lifebuoy .

The SOLAS Slimpack Liferaft takes up the minimum possible space without compromising safety

A desirable piece of equipment to have on board any boat, the bulky size of liferafts frequently poses problems both of appearance and storage. Ocean Safety addresses these problems with the launch of its new SOLAS Slimpack liferaft range, which is ideal for commercial vessels required to comply with the longer range requirements of Code of Practice and Class XII (categories 0 and 1) regulations while ensuring that deck space remains uncluttered and free of traditional bulky GRP canisters.

This new level of compactibility is achieved via a combination of specially designed GRP containers and vacuum packing to ensure that the encapsulated liferaft takes up the minimum possible space without compromising the speed of deployment or overall effectiveness of the raft.

Fully compliant with the latest SOLAS requirements and available with a choice of ‘A’ or ‘B’ type Emergency Packs, the Slimpack liferaft is available in 6, 8, 10, 12 and 16 person versions, with the smallest measuring just 79 cm long by 55.5cm wide by 25.5cm high.

The GRP containers can be provided in custom colours to blend in with a vessel’s superstructure or gelcoat for minimal visual intrusion.

Ocean Safety has also updated and improved one of the most fundamental items of lifesaving equipment carried by boats and craft of all sizes. With the new Horseshoe Lifebuoy, cheap polystyrene filled units have been replaced by those with closed cell foam which not only gives superior buoyancy but is also a softer and more flexible material.

This characteristic addresses problems encountered with polystyrene models where MOB casualties often find it difficult gaining entry to the rigid lifebuoy. The flexibility of the closed cell units enables the casualty to don the lifebuoy quickly and with minimal effort.

The new Horseshoe Lifebuoy comes with a wipe clean cover and is available in white or yellow. The premium version comes with the AQ180 lifebuoy light, a fully sealed, tamper-proof light with an extra large dome and five years battery life. The standard version is fitted with a regular light which takes three ‘C’ size alkaline batteries.

The lifebuoy sets come with a sturdy bracket and can be fitted vertically or horizontally for rapid deployment.
