Seawork panel discussions look for solutions
The three-day conference running alongside this year’s Seawork International will see a range of panel discussions including ‘Windfarm Access Vessels: are Catamarans the right solution?’, chaired by John Haynes of Shock Mitigation.
Taking place on Thursday 18 June 2015 at 11:15am, the panel promises to deliver a lively debate for all professional sectors. Panellists will gather to look at the latest cat designs and will present the merits of hull forms ranging from VSVs (Very Slender Vessels) to Foil Assisted Multihulls. The discussion will then address the pros and cons of multihull versus monohull boats for the purposes of getting personnel out to offshore windfarms, either directly or using the mothership/daughter craft approach.
“There is no doubt that large catamarans in the 18-24m range are currently the vessel of choice for the windfarm support sector,” said Mr Haynes. “As the industry moves further offshore it is a good time to take a step back and see what other solutions could be used in other parts of the world. In the North Sea areas such as the Dogger Bank, which is over 125km from land, present a very different operational scenario for building and maintaining windfarms.”
“We want plenty of challenging questions from the audience – this is designed to be a fast moving session that cuts to the meat of the question,” he added.
The panellists for this session are Andy White from CTruk, Stephen Beadsmore from the Wave Access Project, Jonas Pederson from Tuco Group, Guy Whitaker from Missionkraft, and Andy Page of Alicat Design & South Boats IOW.
Seawork International’s three-day conference this year will be located on board Ocean Scene which will be moored alongside the quayside.
