The AGM will focus on networking, industry challenges and issues, with a particular emphasis on environmental management plans – a recurring topic since COP26 in 2021.
In our podcast, Tracey and Kerrie talk about the last five years of progress within the industry, with companies all across the industry revealing their carbon reduction plans, such as switching fuel sources or using more automation.
Series 5 will look into all these matters, including the technologies being implemented by vessel owners and the innovations in hull shape, drive chains, battery units and hydrogen technologies – to mention but a few.
The industry faces leadership challenges, particularly in being reluctant to adopt technologies due to the risk of being “guinea pigs” for new implementations. Countries like Norway and the Netherlands are mentioned as examples of governments taking the lead by investing in new technologies on state-owned vessels, which has created a model where local service agents gain experience with new equipment, encouraging wider adoption by private sector players. However, many ports and harbours are cautious about investing in infrastructure without a clear direction on which technologies will be adopted on a large scale.
This series will feature a diverse group of participants from various organization sizes, from small local operators to large global corporations, aiming to address these varying needs and conditions within the industry.
The overall goal is to create versatile and flexible management plans that can be adapted to different operational environments.
