Harry Besley, 18-year-old sailor from Taunton in Devon, has landed at Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk on the latest leg of his journey around the UK coastline in an electric rigid inflatable boat (eRIB).
As part of ‘Round Britain eRIB’, a campaign to raise awareness of marine electrification, Harry embarked in Lyme Regis on England’s south coast and has spent 28 days on the water so far. His route includes locations strategically selected around the UK for their shoreside charging capabilities, with the itinerary highlighting the full spectrum of UK maritime activities; from small-scale commercial fishing harbours to the nation’s busiest commercial ports and natural deep-water harbours.
Location sponsors of Round Britain eRIB, Tidal Transit, welcomed Harry at the Port of Wells yesterday at his latest stop off to charge up.
Tidal Transit supplies purpose-built crew transfer vessels (CTVs) for the offshore wind industry, including electrically-powered E-CTVs, and sponsored this latest leg of Harry’s campaign to help accelerate the transition to electric power in demanding environments like marine transportation.
Leo Hambro, Commercial Director at Tidal Transit, commented:
“We’re incredibly proud to support Harry’s electric expedition. His journey embodies the spirit of innovation and determination that is crucial for tackling the climate crisis.
“Harry’s adventure not only highlights the potential of electric propulsion on the water, but also positions the East of England as a hub for the future of decarbonised maritime activity. What’s more, through his Round Britain eRIB Challenge, Harry is inspiring the next generation of mariners.”
