The UK’s leading marine power and electrical engineering specialist – Teesside based MJR Power and Automation – has this month announced the launch of its containerised shore to ship power system, QuayPowertm.. The technology will enable ships to shut down auxiliary diesel engines, plug-in and seamlessly transfer to ports electrical grid supply when docked, significantly reducing port emission and improve local air quality.
QuayPowertm has been designed and developed by MJR’s highly skilled engineers with over 100 years combined knowledge and expertise in delivering marine power generation and distribution systems. Engineered to meet the challenges faced by port and vessel operators, QuayPowertm offers a cost-effective modular and scalable containerised power conversion solution that not only integrates easily with the ports electrical power infrastructure - with its highly flexible electrical and mechanical configuration - but also provide uninterrupted power and charging capabilities for all types of vessels, from workboats and ferries to offshore support vessels and container ships.
Designed as a robust and practical means of providing shore power to ships and vessels of all sizes, QuayPower’s standardised container system design is the first of its type in the market that provides a wide range of benefits for both port operators and the ship owners from single and multiple berth solutions, to fully integrated micro & off-grid systems combining renewable power generation and energy storage.
Speaking about the launch of the first system of its type into the marketplace, Paul Cairns, MD at MJR Power and Automation said: “We have worked incredibly hard to launch this product to the market which addresses the many challenges faced by both ports and vessel owners to provide safe, efficient and reliable transfer of clean electrical power for vessel operations at port.”
“QuayPowertm has been uniquely designed to integrate with the port networks for both current and future vessel requirements, and by unlocking additional services to combine local power generation, energy recovery and storage. This opens up grid support services with increased efficiencies and revenue opportunities that truly delivers emission free electrical power from source to sea.”
QuayPowertm standard configurations comes in 4 frame sizes from 250 kilowatts to 1 megawatt housed in a standard 20ft ISO shipping containers with options for either low or medium voltage input and output supplies, scaled for multi megawatts system requirements. The Teesside business can support clients specific site requirements from design and engineering to installation and service including:
- Port and ship survey
- Full design, construction, installation and commissioning
- Conversion of low and medium voltage power integration
- Marine battery and energy storage systems
- Vessel electrical, automation and synchronisation upgrade
