Vigo, 29-12-2024 – AISTER, a leader in the design and manufacture of specialized maritime vessels, has completed the delivery of a series of six advanced aluminium patrol boats intended for patrolling and surveillance operations along the coast of an African country, the name of which cannot be yet disclosed.
Built with durability, speed, and versatility in mind, these vessels are set to support a wide range of mission profiles, from rapid-response interventions to law enforcement and potential search and rescue (SAR) assignments.
Crafted with marine-grade aluminium and featuring a deep-V hull design, each patrol boat spans nearly 12 meters in length with a 3.5-meter beam, providing unmatched seakeeping capabilities in challenging coastal environments. Driven by twin Mercury SeaPro 4-stroke, 8-cylinder petrol outboard engines with a combined output of 250 HP at 5700 rpm, the patrol boats are engineered for maximum power and fuel efficiency, supporting sustainable daily operations with minimal costs.
An essential feature of these boats is a perimeter fender system designed to protect the hull and enhance operational resilience. This system incorporates a hybrid D-profile fender with an evolutive section, built with a closed cell polyethylene core and covered by a highly resilient polyurea film. This advanced design provides outstanding durability and impact absorption, ensuring the patrol boats are equipped to handle the demands of intensive coastal operations safely. An additional and detachable bespoke bow protection, developed in close collaboration with the Consultant and the fender manufacturer, provides an increased resistance for the most demanding missions.
Quality is a fundamental aspect when designing and building our boats. Embedded in our DNA, quality assurance is the keystone in the viewpoint we look at the whole process with. It is present already in the conceptual project and basic engineering when developing the hull lines of these planing boats. This is a primary feature providing the vessels with their excellent seakeeping and manoeuvrability characteristics. Neither is the building process unconnected to the QA appraisal: a continuous survey of all the assembly and welding process is carried out at our workshops on a daily basis. Painting, systems and interior assembling, the final touch-ups and the trials are all processes which are benefitted from this philosophy. At the end of the process, quality is an important added value to the ships we built.
“Our client has expressed satisfaction with the exceptional performance of these vessels. The final users highlight their superior stability, cost-efficiency, and adaptability to various mission demands,” said Javier Rasilla, Managing Director of AISTER.
These patrol boats are designed to operate with a core crew of two, with accommodations for up to eight personnel for rapid deployment scenarios. Delivered in pairs by sea freight and after the commissioning at destination and a complete on-site training course, the fleet has already commenced operations in coastal and harbour regions, demonstrating capability in both surveillance and enforcement activities, with the flexibility to adapt for SAR missions when required.
